Six reasons cleansing and exfoliation are essential skincare steps

Hands up if you’ve ever fallen into bed without removing makeup (guilty!).

Or maybe, you’re a regular swapper of a thorough cleanse for a single-use makeup wipe.

If this is you, don’t worry, we got you!

At Biologi, we know that simplicity is critical for healthy skin.

Many consumers have become accustomed to 10-step routines filled with synthetic products, but all the skin really needs is active ingredients that alter the function on a cellular level.

That, and a daily cleanse and regular exfoliation, of course!

And unfortunately, when the focus is on simplicity, the cleanse and exfoliate are extra steps that can get overlooked.

But, as always, we’re here to share our knowledge and let you know exactly why cleansing and exfoliation are essential.

In fact, they’re so important, we’ve designed our revolutionary products around a cleansing and exfoliation ritual that removes yet another step in the routine while nourishing every skin cell just that little bit more!

If you’re ever tempted to skip the cleanse or exfoliate, here are six good reasons it’s a hard ‘heck no!’ from us!

1) Helps avoid irritation

Cleansing removes all traces of pollution, oil, makeup and dirt from the skin’s surface. If the skin isn’t cleansed thoroughly, bacteria become trapped under the surface leading to irritation or redness. Amino acids and phenolic acids found in Bc Refresh Cleanser gently restore the skin’s barrier, reduce redness and leave the complexion smooth and supple.

2) Helps reduce breakouts

Breakouts occur when the skin’s natural oils mix with debris such as dead skin cells and block the pores. Regular cleansing and exfoliation can help regulate oil flow and keep impurities moving to reduce the occurrence and severity of breakouts.

3) Brightens the skin

Exfoliation encourages cellular renewal that can help the skin appear healthier and brighter. It also removes dead skin cells which can enhance the overall glow and stop the skin from looking dull.

4) Helps serum absorption

Keeping the skin cells clear by cleansing and exfoliation can allow for better absorption of active ingredients found in serums. This helps the vital phytonutrients penetrate deeper so that by the time cells reach the surface, they’re more nourished, stronger and more hydrated.

5) Builds antioxidant protection

A serum cleanser containing alpha-amino acids and triterpene glycosides can build antioxidant protection that protects the integrity of the skin’s barrier and strengthens cells to better defend against free radical damage.

6) Hydrating

Synthetic surfactants and exfoliation with harsh scrubs can strip the skin’s natural oils leaving the skin dehydrated and flaky. Adding vital amino acids and removing synthetic formulating ingredients can add extra hydration while leaving the natural oils intact.

Tips for a great cleanse every time!

Tip #1: Always double cleanse! We recommend removing makeup and impurities from the skin’s surface with a microfibre cloth before cleansing with a serum cleanser containing nourishing active ingredients.

Tip #2: If the skin feels tight after cleansing, you’re using products that strip the skin’s natural oils. This taught feeling doesn’t mean the skin is clean, the skin should feel soft and relaxed after every cleanse.

Tip #3: Remove cleanser with a microfibre cloth instead of just rinsing as water isn’t always enough to lift excess debris from the skin. Oh, and don’t forget the hairline, neck and decolletage!

When exfoliation isn’t the answer

While Bx Reveal is suitable for even the most sensitive of skin types, there are some cases where exfoliation isn’t suitable.

If you have an impaired barrier function, chronic skin conditions, your skin is red or inflamed or if you take Roaccutane or any vitamin A derivative, you should speak to a skincare expert before exfoliation.

Biologi’s cleansing and exfoliation ritual

We recommend combining Bx Reveal once or twice a week with Bc Refresh Cleanser for an exfoliation ritual that combines the power of active nutrients to smooth, cleanse and nourish the skin in one easy process.

Mix one sachet of Bx Reveal with three pumps of Bc Refresh Cleanser until it forms a paste. You can apply with wet fingertips and massage into the skin for two to three minutes or use the Biologi Mask Brush to gently apply the mixture to the face.

Rinse well and allow to air dry.

The powder formulation will gently buff and polish the skin’s surface while removing dead skin cells without irritating the cells. Combining Bx Reveal with Bc Refresh Cleanser helps remove impurities, increase skin hydration and build antioxidant protection for healthier skin.

Unless your skin’s barrier is inflamed or impaired, exfoliation and cleansing are an essential part of every skincare routine. To try Biologi’s serum cleanser and exfoliation ritual, visit our website today.
