SKINCARE TRENDS FOR 2020
Skincare is an industry that’s continually evolving.
As we rush towards the end of another year, developments in the skincare industry are showing no signs of slowing down in 2020.
If you’re a long-term follower of Biologi, you’ll know we’re already leading the way in changing the way consumers approach skincare. With a constant flow of new research and developments in technology emerging, as a new year approaches, read on for the skincare trends to look out for in 2020.
Skin fasting is the concept of detoxing your skin, just as you would your body.
The practice aims to reduce the toxic load on the skin’s delicate protective barrier by using few-to-no cosmetics or products and giving skin cells a chance to detox.
The overall goal is to reduce reliance on synthetics which your skin might not really need to help restore natural processes, balance PH levels and strengthen the skin’s natural protective barrier.
Skin fasting was first introduced in 2019. With the concept still gathering momentum, 2020 will see more consumers starting the year by putting skin fasting at the top of their New Year’s Resolution list.
How Biologi is on-trend: Biologi promotes the less is more approach to skincare. We know that all skin cells truly need is nutrients. Synthetic ingredients used to formulate popular skincare products can create more problems than they solve for your skin.
The full range of Biologi serums contains one single-plant ingredient jam-packed with 100% active phytonutrients that feed the skin just as they do the plant. We don’t add fragrance, activating agents or even water to our serums. All you’ll find in every bottle is pure plant power and zero contributors to toxic load.
Consumers will become more aware of greenwashing
Greenwashing is an increasingly common marketing ‘tactic’ that makes consumers believe they’re buying a natural or organic product when they’re not.
Vague marketing messages, natural imagery and consumer confusion all add up to greenwashing being a highly effective strategy to give manufacturers a piece of the organic industry pie.
In 2020, as skincare brands are forced to become more transparent, consumers will become more aware of greenwashing strategies and pay more attention to what’s in their skincare.
In September, legislation introduced in America states that the terms ‘natural’ and ‘naturally derived’ used on cosmetic packaging must contain at least 70% natural substances.
In a largely unregulated industry where ‘natural’ or ‘naturally derived’ can (and does) mean a concoction of harmful toxins – this is bound to cause unrest for those who adopt greenwashing as a sales strategy.
How Biologi is on-trend: Biologi is a transparent brand, and we promise to tell consumers exactly what they’re getting in their skincare.
We advocate every day for a fairer, more transparent industry. Our customer service team responds to all enquiries regarding our products, packaging, processes and ingredients. We’re open, honest and accessible and have a goal to educate consumers on what they’re truly putting on their skin.
Consumers are quickly learning that they don’t need a shelf full of products to get good results. In 2020, you’ll notice consumers taking things out of their bathroom cabinet rather than putting them in.
How Biologi is on-trend: All Biologi serums can be used to treat a range of skincare concerns. Benefit range from hydration, balanced complexion, anti-ageing, reducing pigmentation and inflammation, and repairing sensitised skin. Whichever bottle of Biologi you choose, you’ll get an array of results, reducing the need for numerous products.
Holistic approach to skincare
Good skin starts from within and in 2020 there will be even more of a focus on gut health as an essential element of a healthy skin regime.
Applying natural nutrients from the outside will always benefit skin cells; however, conditions such as acne, eczema and inflammation must primarily be managed internally. A combination of gut health, lifestyle, quality nutrients, sleep, water and exercise all contribute to skin health, and the focus in 2020 must be on overall health.
How Biologi is on-trend: When advising consumers on how to treat skin concerns, we suggest they look at hormone imbalance, food intolerance and the overall health of the gut to diagnose issues.
The skincare industry continues to evolve, and along with it, so does Biologi. Watch this space in 2020 as we bring new revolutionary products to market, release ground-breaking research, and continue towards revolutionising the skincare industry one consumer at a time.
