As people get older, collagen production slows down leading to wrinkles, fine lines and sagging. These visible signs of aging make a person’s skin the biggest indicator of their, shall we say ‘maturity’, without them having to say a single word.

While aging is a natural process that we’ll never be able to stop without chemicals or surgery, there are things that people do which inadvertently excel the aging process, one of which is over-exposure to the sun without adequate protection.

We know this isn’t always a choice, particularly in the harsh Australian climate where just walking around can cause premature aging, but that’s why it’s more important than ever that we’re giving our skin as much of a hand as possible to repair from immediate, and protect from future, sun damage.

How does the sun cause skin damage?

Free radicals in the environment cause oxidative stress which leads to the damage of skin cells and the visible signs of aging. While free radicals occur from a variety of environmental factors and not just the sun, the sun’s UV rays contribute up to 80% of damage to the cells!

What this means is that if you can get your sun-care right, you’re playing a significant and active part in slowing down the visible signs of aging.

After over-exposure to the heat of the sun, you’ll notice your skin feels tight, hot, and painful. This is sunburn.  You’re sunburnt because the heat from the sun has soaked all the moisture out of the cells and they’ve died and dried up leading to them flaking off and peeling.

The skin turns red because it’s inflamed, and because your skin is so dehydrated, your nerve endings are now exposed to air instead of being covered in moisturiser which is what causes the pain.

Sun-spots (or pigmentation) are another form of sun damage. Have you ever noticed that when you’ve already got a tan it’s harder (but not impossible) to get burnt? That’s because melanin (the pigment that gives you a suntan) is also a natural protector against the harmful UV rays. When melanin production is over-stimulated you get a build-up which leads to permanent sun-spots.

For immediate relief from sunburn, post-sun skin needs hydration and anti-inflammatory properties as soon as possible, both of which are contained in Bf serum.

Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant which helps reduce the natural damage from UV rays. Bf body serum contains natural vitamin C and not only hydrates dry skin, but also assists in moisture retention for maximum effectiveness and should be applied immediately after sunburn to start repairing damaged skin. The pot of liquid gold will also reduce redness while preventing damaging free radicals from destroying your cells further.

While pigmentation can’t be cured, the natural Vitamin C in Bk + Bf serums is an antidote that will help to prevent the formation of new pigmentation to create an even skin tone.

Regardless of your level of exposure to the sun, it’s important that on an ongoing basis, you take daily steps to create healthier cells to protect them from future damage caused by the sun.

We know that hydrated skin is happy skin, but hydration isn’t just about replacing water but also lost nutrients.

Ferulic Acid is an anti-oxidant that protects your skin from free radicals.  Ferulic acid not only protects the skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays, but it also helps reverse some of the damage your skin has already suffered. Combined with vitamin C, ferulic acid is much more effective making Bf serum applied both pre and post sun exposure, extremely powerful in protecting against sun damage.

Quercetin, Ellagic and Gallic acids are phyto-actives found in Biologi serums that bind with the natural sugar molecules in the skin to strengthen the cellular walls. It’s this process that causes some people to feel a dewiness or stickiness when they first start to use Biologi.

Whether you want to prevent early aging or fight current lines and wrinkles, all three Biologi serums boast 100% active ingredients that combat signs of aging that sun exposure can cause…naturally!

Each serum contains nothing but naturally-occurring active nutrients extracted from Kakadu Plum (Bk), Davidson Plum (Bd) and Finger Lime (Bf) which means they deliver the highest concentrate of organic native botanicals for visible results.

Sunburn is only temporary but ongoing protection of your skin from the sun is essential, and it’s important that you take daily measures to protect your skin from further damage, regardless of how much exposure to the sun you have

Please note that while Biologi serums are incredibly effective as part of your skincare routine, they don’t contain any SPF and cannot protect against sunburn. It’s vital that you use Biologi serum in conjunction with a high protection sunscreen for maximum prevention against the sun’s harmful rays.
